Recent Oil Change / Dead Cylinder Sign In

Hey All -
Looking for some guidance on a recent turn of events. I have a 2012 Subaru Outback (~156K Miles). I had an oil change done last week along with rear breaks. I then went away for a few days (didn’t drive). Upon my return I was driving and my car breaks down. I get it towed to my mechanic and he tells my i have a dead cylinder due to low compression. I maybe drove 30-40 miles after my oil change.

I’m definitely no car expert and I certainly understand I have an older car/a lot of miles - but this doesn’t sound right noting how quickly this happened after a standard oil change. Can the two be related?

Any guidance/suggestions/questions I should be asking? I did make the mistake of bringing it back to the same mechanic who did the oil change.

Thanks in advance!

Why do people think that everything has to be a mechanic's fault? Did you take a compression test before taking it for an oil change? Of course not.

There is absolutely no connection to an oil change and a cylinder with no compression. Look someplace else for blame.

Re: Recent Oil Change / Dead Cylinder Sign In

What were the results of the compression check to declare this a dead cylinder?

Oil change disasters if so are usually a serious oil leak of filter or messed up drain plug. Maybe forgot to fill with oil at all or too much?

What clues where you left it on ground if any?

Do warning lights work now - turn key to "run" but don't start it all should light up - do they?

More questions than answers but something doesn't add up here,

Tom
