I am replacing the fuel pump on a 1993 Dodge Caravan 3.3 engine. The electrical connector on the van has 5 pins and 4 wires going to it. The only replacement I can buy has a 3 pin electrical connector on the fuel pump. Both Napa and OReillys have only the 3 pin fuel pump and I am being told the 5 pin part is no longer made. I have a 3 pin connector from a junk van with 3 wires that does fit the three pin connector on the new pump. Is there a way I could use this and eliminate one wire, and if so, which one? Or is there an adapter that is made to comply to this? Thanks for your help!!

You can't simply use the wrong fuel pump. I've changed a lot of fuel pumps annd i have never been told something like that. the correct pump is available. Don't let tyhem tell you any different. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

The 5 pin setup appears to be for AWD vans and the 4th wire is for a solenoid that is not on the FWD van and that is what is making it so rare. The vt/blk wire is the one not associated with the fuel pump.

Just to clarify...it is FWD. On the original plug on the van from lt to rt...green/black stripe, blue, black and a black. On the three pin connector there's a green/black stripe, blue, blank and then a black. Common sense tells me I can eliminate the first black wire (lt to rt) which is eliminated on the three pin connector from the junk van. Does this make sense to you?

You can't simply "eliminate" it. It is a ground for one of the components. What you can do is join the 2 black wires together so they share a single ground but both wires need to be connected to the single black ground.

I just want to be sure I understand. I would eliminate the five pin connector that is on the van, and take the two black existing wires on the van and connect them to the one black wire on the three pin connector from the junk van, then green to green and blue to blue.
