Screeching sound Sign In

hi,

I have a 93 ford taurus and I just had the water pump replaced and got a new timing belt. I'm hearing a loud screeching noise when I start to accelerate now. I don't hear it when the car is in park or when I don't have my foot on the gas. Could this new problem be related to the last one? Is it the transmission? Help.

Hmmm? What engine is in this? Just looked and only the SHO uses a timing belt - did you mean the regular belt?

Seems more like the belt is loose by description - possibly wrong belt (too long) or tensioner isn't working. Could be another issue with a pulley bearing.

What might be happening is the alternator normally works a bit harder right after starts and upon raising the idle and a loose belt would make noise then and might not just idling??

The timing belt you replaced may be too tight.
