Spark Plugs Sign In

I have a 95 Nissan Pickup with 2.4 liter engine. I was sold Bosch Platinum 2 plugs with dual tips. It runs fine, but will the dual tips run too hot and hurt my engine that has 165K on it? I read that these plugs are more efficient, help gas mileage and burn better, but don't use more voltage. But I dont want to hurt my engine. Thanks

Re: Spark Plugs Sign In

If the spark plugs that you installed were/are the recommended plug from a Bosch application catalog then I don’t think there’ll be a problem. That being said if you were to ask Nissan they would tell you nothing other then what they recommend should be in there.
Again I doubt that the Bosch plug will do any damage to the engine but I’ve seen derivability and emissions issues by not using an OE spark plug; whether it be Bosch, NGK, Champion or who’s ever.
For example; an automotive manufacturer may have 10 different models in their line up; each one of these models may have their own spark plug part number, depending on application. The after market people look at all these different plugs and then come up with one or two part numbers that in their opinion should work in all of them. They do this to reduce inventory; which saves everyone money; right from their manufacturing facility to the retailer selling them too you, everyone except for you that is.
Is it the exact heat range maybe not; close enough to work, probably? But with today’s engines and engine controls sometimes close enough isn’t good enough.
Dan.

Re: Spark Plugs Sign In

Thank you Dan, that was very informative and helpful. I had been told by someone once that the double tipped plugs could run too hot, so I was just wondering. But Bosch says that on this type plug, the arc runs from one tip and down the other. But anyway it was one of the plugs Advance Auto Parts showed for this vehicle. Thanks again for your your help.
