Starter Motor : 1989 Camry Sign In

I have a 1989 toyota camry 4 cyl and 2 months ago I had to replace the starter motor. Almost right after replacing it with a rebuilt starter from Advance Auto Parts it wouldn't turn over unless I tapped it with a hammer. This continued for a month before I was able to swap it out for another at the same store. The new starter worked fine for a day until I stopped at a gas station and tried to restart and it wouldn't crank until I again tapped it with a hammer. Can I possibly have gotten 2 bad starters in a row ?

Reminds me,years back I had a Chrysler come in that wasn't charging..diagnosed it as a bad alternator.replaced the alternator,same thing,not charging...again,rechecked it,all things lead to a bad alternator...replaced it again,same thing...WTF..
To make a long story short, the sixth alternator,( from another supplier) fixed the problem...its rare but sometimes you can get faulty rebuilds....insist on as dmac said "new" or "remanufactured'...not REBUILT..
Rebuilds fix what wrong and leave old working parts in ..remans..replace all...recondition entire unit...
