Stretchable CV Boot Installation kit Sign In

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the CV boot tool kit that comes with a cone to stretch the boot so that you don't have to disassemble the CV joint. This doesn't seem to be a popular method to replace (cracked but not split) CV boots in the U.S., even with the pnuematic version of the tool. I would like to try it because it looks so easy but would like to hear some inside scoop about this method (such as disadvantages and installation tips). Also, where's the best place to get the kit? Not many places in the U.S. seem to carry it. Thanks.

I have these boots here and have used then when an original boot is not available or when the CV joint won’t release from the shaft to get an original boot on.
I wouldn’t say they are any easier or faster to use and they seem to work ok; at least I haven’t had one fail yet due to it ripping open.
Here are a couple of things I don’t like about using these boots.
They supply you with a lubricant that you smear on the installation cone and the boot; it sure does its job because once you have it all over everything including your hands you can’t get a good grip on the boot to force it over the cone. LOL
The universal clamps and the cheesy tool they have to tighten the clamps to the boot. You’ll go through a few clamps until you figure out what not to do. It’s a fine line between getting the clamp tight enough for it not to allow the boot to slip off and over tightening and breaking the clamp.
Here’s what the ones I have look like; I won’t post their name unless the admin here says it’s ok to.
Dan.

Thank you for the detailed reply, Dan D. Seems like it needs a little getting used to. But, I'm still interested in trying the product. You mentioned that you didn't want to reveal the name of the company that supplied this particular type of cone kit. How should I clear it with admin. in order to find out? Or can you direct me to a general website where I can find it on my own? Thanks.
