Surging after cooling system replacement

Hey guys I'm posting about an issue I'm having with my 2002 put cruiser. I replaced the radiator and hoses along with the thermostat. While I also unscrewed the intake manifold to get at the hoses. Now it surges heavily and stream comes out of the radiator cap when I tried to run it to get rid of any potential air blocks. I've bled it and checked all the wires but everything seems ok. Need help!!

You could have overheated too much and have a blown head gasket now.............. very common. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Arrrr - Quote you">>Now it surges heavily and stream comes out of the radiator cap when I tried to run it to get rid of any potential air blocks.<<" First what prompted you to do this work - an overheat perhaps? 2nd. What surging? Engine running or just baring out coolant and gasses because of air/vapor still it the system all confusing the show? Not so sure you can just fill these with coolant when drained for any reason so easily and don't expect it to do that by itself. For now pressure check it and see if that at least holds - cool engine. If not and no leak may be running coolant into engine so beware and don't hydraulic lock it up as that could really damage it - turn by hand if it can't hold pressure with no leaks found first and find where it went perhaps into a cylinder? Have to let coolant out of cylinder(s) before cranking if so, T

It was leaking and overheating. The mechanic diagnosed a radiator leak and lower hose. Quoted me 720 which I didn't have. The engine itself surges. Violently shaking. It goes upto about 2500rpm at idle and 4500rpm if I drive it. I drove it 50ft and gave up. Earlier when I started it up I forgot to bolt down the intake manifold and it made a loud bang before I turned it off. Bolted it down but it still shakes and it sounds like air coming from around the (new) upper radiator hose/intake) . It's also transferring all of the new coolant I put in back to the overflow tank. Bit worried I could have made it worse as it was running fine, though hot before I worked on it. But I didn't knock anything and the repair seemed to go smoothly until I turned it back on. Could it be that air is getting into the manifold or I didn't bleed it properly?

Sounds like you already destroyed the engine. It only take one good overheat to do that.

Unlikely since I drove it fine for 2 miles after the mechanic looked it at, and it's not moved since. I think I did something during the repair to cause the surges and shaking, but unsure what that could have been,

These don't tolerate overheating lots newer than this and lots of vehicles. One minute is too much unfortunately. IDK - do checks but without unreal attention from new, antifreeze change way ahead of listed schedules the friken gaskets alone can't take the time. But probably made of some edible non toxic bull OE, replacements can be lots better if no damage to hard parts. Stinks but the way it is, T

When he drove it home it had low coolant and a hole in the system so there was no pressure. Once the leak was repaired and it was filled with coolant it will suddenly start pushing coolant into the cylinders which will foul the plugs and make it run like crap but if you know better, go for it.

That makes more sense. So how do I get rid of the coolant in the cynlinders and then replace the spark plugs?

By replacing the engine. The coolant gets into the cylinder through a blown head gasket or cracked head but all that needs to be confirmed.
