Throttle sensor problems Sign In

Hello,

I'm looking for any help I can get right now to fix my wife's 2005 Chevy Malibu Maxx. Let me first say I am not a mechanic, but I am a do it yourself type of guy and am pretty competent at learning how to do things, but right now I'm stumped. It starts with the center console message saying reduced engine power. Hooked up my code reader and got codes P1516 and P2135, which point to the Throttle actuater and throttle pedal position. I did some research on it and decided to first check the connector to the throttle body sensor. No gunk or corrosion found. No wires appeared to be loose. I also took some throttle cleaner and cleaned out the throttle valve. I picked up a digital multimeter today to try to test the voltage of the connector (Innova 3320 model). Only problem is I cannot figure out how to get a reading for the throttle connector on this thing. Well, that and I don't know which wire is which on the connector, there's a bunch of them lol. I have looked and looked online but alot of what I found is kind of hard to understand, plus it refers to vehicles that have less wires and different colors on the connector than ours has. Once I know what the problem is I'm pretty sure I can fix it myself. Just having a hard time knowing what the exact problem is here. Thanks!!

You'll need a high end scan tool that can interface the PCM and TAC modules on the manufacture side to look at TPS sensors' voltages for the P1516. You can't check the TPS sensors with a volt meter because they are integrated with the TAC module that is inside the throttle body assembly.

There is also a TSB ( 07-06-04-003) out for those codes that states to replace the PCM if it falls within a certain build date code and the codes return after repair.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
