I'm attempting to change my own oil for the first time and I can't get the oil drain plug off. Does anyone have any tips for how to get it loose?

Yes................. drive straight to the nearest competent mechanic in your area and pay him the $25 before you do so much damage you'll be buying a new engine.

I was able to remove it with a breaker bar but thank you so much for the helpful input. :)

Sarcasm duly noted...............

If you want to gamble a $5000 engine to save $10, go for it. One mistake here and you'll regret it for a very long time.
