Troubles getting 1996 dodge Dakota started

When I try starting my 1996 dodge Dakota it will either start and idle at like 300 rpms for a very short time or won't start at all. I have tried to rev it when it starts and is at low rpm, but it doesn't seem to respond to me pressing the accelerator either. I also pressed the accelerator all the way to the floor before starting as to rule out the engine being flooded I think. Any ideas of what it may be, or what I could do to get it running would be appreciated

First step ............ test the fuel pressure with an accurate gauge.
