Trunk Won't Stay Closed

I have a 1995 Pontiac Bonneville. The trunk won't stay closed. I used the key fob several times during the day to open it and had no problem closing it. I came home, used the button inside the door to pop the trunk open and now it won't close. I can't tie the trunk down with rope because there is nothing to attach it to on the trunk itself. The latch seems to be stuck in the "open" position. I can move it manually but it just snaps back. What now?

Try removing the lock button from car and unplugging it. Then see if latch works. If it does, odds are the switch is the cause of it. If it still does not work right, then we gotta dig deeper into the wiring. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

Switch cable or switch could be stuck. Check the switch and give it a jiggle. Look for a cable connected to latch in trunk, give it a few tugs and see if anything happens. Has happened to me before, and thats how i fixed it.

Jiggled the cable behind the locking mechanism and presto! the assembly clicked back into the "closed" position. It works fine now. Thank you so much!!!

BEAUTY! Glad we could help. Spray a little WD40 on the latch and cable in the trunk so it dont get stuck again.
