I have a 99 mercury cougar with a 2.5 L engine that wont start. It turns over just fine but it wont catch. Its getting gas so we just tested for a spark and there was none. So, we were going to replace the coil pack or modual but someone said we might want to test a sensor first. How would i test a cam shaft sensor or a crank shaft sensor?

It would probably be a good idea to check a few things out before throwing some parts at it..... I've never seen a coil go out and cause a no start on that system. Losing one or 2 cyl's is the common problem with those. Just a couple of quick questions first. How did you test for fuel & spark? Do you have a DVOM? (volt meter), fuel pressure gauge & noid light or test light? Also get the codes pulled.
