1990 Dodge Dakota Pickup 3.9 Liter V6 Automatic 256350 Miles When I turn the ignition to the on position and then turn it off again a low humming sound is heard somewhere between the cab and the bed of the truck. By either closing the hood or hard closing the driver door the sound goes away. If I ignore or forget to shut the sound off in a few hours it will run my battery down. I took it to a mechanic a few years ago but he couldn't locate the source of the problem. That was back about 2006.

A huming sound when turning the key to the on position would be the fuel pump. That's the only thing I think that would make any sounds when turning on the key. I know some vehicles the fuel pump will stay running when the oil pressure sensor is bad. -------------------------------------------------------- Your only as good as your tools!
