acceleration but judders no power Sign In

Ford KA2 1998

The car acceleration judders and not running at normal speeds. You feel the acceleration peddle juddering as if you are putting your foot on and off. This is presently first thing in the morning. It does after awhile clear itself and then runs normally.

As this happened I took the car and had a full service. The car came back seeming fine but the next morning it was back to itself. Garage did say that at some point the Idel Control Value may need Changing as ticking over high.

I do have a Haynes Manual which I looked through this morning. What could it be? Idle air control, powertrian control module or even Vehicle Speed Sensor?

Do I just spend out more money and have it put on a diagnostic? This cheap car of mine is always taking money from me.

As I have the manual I am happy to have a go myself.

HELP !!Smile

Get a code reading to assist. You said it can run normally when run for a while so suspect it will be something to do with fuel delivery not enhanced (more) when cold but see what the code says first,

Machines don't diagnose cars. They simply supply data for the tech to help determine the problem.

The IAC isn't going to cause any kind of acceleration issues. It's job is to maintain the proper idle speed. that's all.

What does a full service consist of?

If this thing hasn't had a tune up in a while, probably wouldn't be a bad idea to go ahead and do that.

Tune up includes:
air filter
fuel filter
spark plugs
spark plug wires
inspect belt(s)

If this has spark plugs that are recessed into the top of the head, look for engine oil down inside the holes where the spark plugs go. If you see oil, change the valve cover gasket and grommets.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Re: acceleration but judders no power Sign In

I had the service done to see if it would correct the problem. Which included engine oil, oil air fuel filters, spark plugs, new rocker cover gasket.

When it is judder in it still goes but power isnt there. But it kind of clears slowly thrusting slightly forward. Out of gear I try and rev it to clear it. A bit of a spin around the block clears it but of course I dont want to leave the problem til it completely gives out.

So do I need to get it on a diagnostic.

Thanks for your comments so far.

That garage already suggested something it might need. If you like them I'd let them fully diagnose it so you don't waste parts that aren't bad. I would mention that this is most noticeable when cold and can clear itself and you may need to leave it overnight if not doing anything wrong with no codes to assist if so such that they can see exactly what it's doing first hand,
