Most but no all are self tensioning; year, make, model & engine size please.

if you look on your radiator support or on the underneath of your hood there is usually a serpentine belt schematic showing you the pullies and belt direction.

you will have power steering pump pulley, alternator pulley, water pump pulley, crackshaft pulley, A/C pulley if equipped and idler pulley and the tensioner pulley,.


the tensioner pulley is small compared to the rest and has a Hex Head and is mounted to an arm that swings under spring tension

If we can get a make, model, year and engine we can post a new diagram if missing on the car itself and quickly know if it's self tensioned or manually adjusted OR multiple belts,
