hey so my car all of a sudden is not running right when i was leaving work today i put my car in reverse and it started to shake and then again when i put it in drive when i actually started to drive it stopped shaking, but it felt like there was a lot of pressure when i pressed on the gas also it sounded like my rpms were a lot higher than what the gage was saying i just had the gas pump replaced last month when i turned the car completly off it smelled like burnt oil. my car is a 2004 pontiac sunfire if you have any clue as to whats wrong i would appriciate it thanks

For some reason I'm thinking exhaust restriction. ?? Will this car just sit and idle well?

That burnt oil smell is probably some grease/oil burning off of extra hot exhaust parts near engine. For now check all fluids for color and level. There should be some info in having a code read even if the SES light isn't on now it will be,

Are you having a shop do this work for you? This car needs a full diagnostic check up and target exactly what's wrong. That's a lot of money spent so far if you are just guessing and throwing out parts. Murphy's law will prove that it will be the last possible thing it could be.

BTW is spelled "catalytic converter" or we are just saying cat/con or "converter" A full code reading might show what's wrong or a couple things even if the light is not on. It's worth the whole check out with this much trouble,
