changing oil pump om 1997 S10 2.2 Sign In

Any one have a suggestion on how to remove oil pan to replace oil pump on 1997 s10 p/u 2.2 l engine? Haynes auto book says to pull engine to do it. I had to remove starter to get to oil pan bolts. Seems a mounting bracket for the starter is in the way of getting the starter out completely. I got the oil pan loose, and can't get it out (lowered) enough to remove the pump. Transmission housing is in the way. I removed it. Seems the oil pan won't come out for hitting the flywheel. My next step is to drop drive shaft, remove transmission, torque converter, flywheel just to remove oil pan so I can change the oil pump. Any suggestions?

Do what the manual told you; remove the engine. Even if you do find a way of sneaking or prying the pan out of there you’ll not get it back in with out damaging the gasket or wiping the silicone sealant off causing an oil leak.
This time Haynes is right. LOL

Thanks for the reply... I just dropped the transmission, exhaust, removed engine mount bolts and jacked up front of engine. a lot easier than pulling motor to do it.
