i have a 93 astro, that the back cargo door won't open. the handle wiggles like something came off inside, but we can't get the door open to take the panel off either. is there a grip, latch, something to get the door open and repair this without destroying the door? please reply via my email at justwhims@buckeye-express.com thanks in advance.

Sorry but I’d rather answer here. What you’re going to have to do is drill out the bolt heads of the handle. The handle will then come off and you’ll be able to open the door by pulling on the two linkage rods that will be hanging there. Don’t worry that you’re going to damage the handle it’s broken anyway that’s why the door's not opening. You’ll see the bolt heads when you pull on the handle as if you’re opening the door, they look like two round disks. Try and drill them in the center of this disk with a1/4’ drill bit. Once you get the door open you’ll see an access panel on the end of the door that’s held on with six Philips (star) screw heads. That’s how you get at the rest of the handle to remove the remaining old handle parts and to fasten the new handle. Maybe get your new handle before you start this repair and what I’ve tried to explain will make more sense. Dan. Canadian "EH"

Hi, hope you don't mind if I jump in here, but I have the same problem with a 89 GMC Safari van. Will this same method also work for me?

I think so - but try everything else first and know what parts are available before you do any damage. If all fails, auto body shops are pretty good at this,
