chevy overheating Sign In

I have a 1999 chevy silverado. 3 months ago it overheated and I thought the issue was the thermostat. I replaced the thermostat and added water and coolant. since then I have noticed the tempature running upwards of 220 and recently as the weather has warmed up the truck runs at 210 for about 30 to 45 minutes with steady 2000 rpm driving. after this time the tempature will rise and fall from 230 to 250. It has not overheated and the coolant resevoir remains full. I have not found any leakes and the water is not coming out of the overflow as if running too hot. any ideas?

Try checking the tempature sending unit for a malfuction or try checking to see if the fan clutch is working properly also. As the truck gets warmed up it may be starting to malfuction check the fan clutch with the car off and cold the fan should move easily by hand. Start the car up and run it for an hour to get it to its hottest point. Then turn car off and check the fan by hand again to see if the fan got tighter. When the car is cold the fan clutch has a tempature sensor spring and it moves easy when cold by hand. When car gets hotter the spring tightens so the fan moves faster to cool the engine down which makes the fan tighter. If the fan still moves easy when at its hottest point the the fan clutch is bad.

also the rise in and fall from 250-230 is the difference when the thermostat is opening and when it closes it raises to 250 then thermostat opens and the temp drops to 230 and it closes back mostly shutuntil it gets to 250 again and so on and so on
