I have a 93 ford taurus with about 73 thousand miles. I just started hearing a clanging sound from the engine and I think its coming from the alternator. Any ideas on what it is?

Couple things before you blame the alternator for making the noise. Try some WD-40 on the belt and if noise shuts right up I'd replace the belt. Take belt off and spin the pulleys which makes it easier to know which of several is making the noise. Pulleys should be wobble free and dang quiet by hand. Make sure belt tension is up to par. Sometimes the tensioner pulley can reach it's limit and then a new belt would be the answer. "Measure Twice, Cut Once" (or check twice and repair once) is the old saying so you can avoid replacing an item unnecessarily, T
