I have a 94 Jeep Cherokee, straight 6, 4.0 engine. I attempted to start my car after sitting for a few hours and then nothing. The Engine turned over but would not fire. I kept on trying till the battery finally died. While trying to start the engine there was a spark from somewhere on the passenger side of the engine and the cell in the battery burned out. With a different battery, I discovered no fire from the coil wire. After replacing the coil, the crankshaft position sensor and the distributor, we finally discovered that the #2 engine control fuse was bad on it's post. The car started and I could drive it home, however it was very sluggish, with the foot giving even pressure on the gas pedal, the engine would surge and die down to a point of very badly jerking the car. It also have very poor to little power. I discovered that the distributor was broken at the place that held it in place by the bolt to the engine. We replaced the old distributor and after that I had the same problem that I started with, no fire from the coil!
