I have a 1996 ford mustang gt 4.6L 5speed... It only blows air through the defrost vents no matter where the selector switch is except the off position... it will blow ac and heat any i've looked under the hood and all the vacuum lines seem ok and connected... any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Definitely sounds like a vacuum problem.. This should have a vacuum reservoir under the hood ...may have to look for it...check the underhood label for a vacuum routing diagram....should show this... Possibly the line could be disconnected from there,reservoir itself could be leaking,trace the vacuum line from there ,see if its disconnected/broken anywhere... Also check the vacuum block..I think its near the firewall....could have a line off there or one port that sometimes is capped off,cap could be off..sometimes a vacuum hose gets soft and comes off or collapses... Just some thoughts..let us know Jim

thanks for the help but still no luck yet the previous owner had installed an after market cd player could they have pulled something loose in the dash that could cause this?

It's more likely underhood vacuum leak/break as Jim suggested. It could be in the dash but I would think you would hear a hiss, T

could this also be linked to my cruise control it is inop also i've been told there both vacuum operated

hey!! what do ya know you were right... i looked at it again in the day light and sure enough the small line next to the firewall was unplugged from the check valve... greatly appreciated thanks darrell

Jim has been running 99.99% here and Proctor and Gamble was after him as they can only do 99+44/100% !! Glad it's fixed and thanks for letting us know, T
