don't know whats wrong

i have a 1990 eagle summit when it gets to a certain temp. it cuts out and dies the gauge doesn't show hot and it's not over heating does anyone have any idea what it might be

In my escort, there are two temperature sensors - one is used to display the temperature on the gauge, another one - to actually control the engine. So if gauge readings are fine, the engine sensor might be faulty. You can check resistance on that sensor to see if it actually corresponds to the engine's temperature. Good luck with your car!
