1998 dodge Durango 5.9 188.000 miles ill drive like 10 blocks to the gas station and when I try to start the truck it will die right away, I know that the muffler is shot the whole rear side of the muffler has a big hole in it, my question is, could the muffler be the problem with the truck dying right away ? I never had this problem before the muffler went bad, my other problem is I don't have any money till next week to get a new muffler, so is it going to hurt my truck if I keep driving it till I can fix it next week ? thanks for your help once again,,,,,,Dennis from wisconsin

the muffler should not prevent starting. start with getting the vehicle scanned- its free at many auto parts stores- call ahead and ask. write down any and all codes they find. history, repairs would help get a picture, tell us what your skill level is- can you do basics?

Ok my brother in law has a scanner, I'll ask him to help me, I'm disabled so I can't do much any more, it just started dying about a week ago and then it's hard to start back up, had tune up on it last year, nephew thinks it could be fuel pump or fuel filter
