I have a 1987 toyota corolla fx. the engine is a 4alc 1,6 liter engine. the engine runs great but the engine haves a carburetor and i would like to get more speed out of the engine and i can not really add anything to the engine. i was thinking about changing the engine out for a fuel-injected engine. would any one know what engine i can change it for i was thinking about a later corolla engine or a matrix engine. if anyone can help with this i would appreciate it. thanks

Why would you do that?

With all due respect, If you don't know which engine would work, then the chances of getting the engine and all supporting components together and operational is going to be a very daunting task. PCM, wiring harness, fuel pump / tank / sender setup, accessory brackets, pullies, flex plate / flywheel, etc are all considerations.

Plus - this type of swap really does violate Federal Emissions laws. I know lots of people swap out engines, but if you sell a modified car like that you are wide open to legal repercussions. If your state requires emissions tests, your replacement engine will likely fail regardless of tailpipe emissions due to equipment violations.

You should sell the Corolla FX and buy a faster car or enjoy the car you have for what it is.
