free of charge(aka not charging) Sign In

hi everyone i'm new to the forum but i'm hoping you guys can help steer me in the right direction, here goes.

Vehicle: 1976 Toyota pick-up
Engine: 1982 Toyota 22-R
Problem: i am using the factory(76) wiring harness and so also the alternator for the 1976 motor. for some reason the thing wont charge with a new alternator and voltage regulator. actually two new alternators being as i brought the first new alternator back to the store where it tested fine but they gave me a new one anyway. i have bought a new battery , checked for continuity between the alternator and voltage regulator as well as alternator and battery. The truck starts and runs well but will not charge,
Solution: hopefully you can provide something in this department, as i am about to just hodge-podge a Chevy one wire alternator in on the air-pump side of the 1982 motor and don't really have the greenbacks for that endevor.

Start off with the basics. 1st test the battery to make sure it's good. Then get a test light and check all your fuses, check your manual to be sure, but I believe that has 2 boxes, maybe even 3 with one behind the glove box.

Then check the main power wire to the back of the alternator with the test light.
