my 01 marquis sometimes doesn't want to start, especially in the morning. battery is strong, doesn't stall out, runs smooth on highway. gas mileage is still ok. not sure if it's the fuel pump/filter, or alternator, any ideas. Thanks!

What is it that doesn't happen when you try to start this car? If it doesn't crank that would be one thing. If it does but not start that could be lots of things. Need more info, T

Are you saying the car starts and continues to run, but it takes a long time cranking to get it ti start? If so, try to turn the key to the on position( dash lights on but not start) Leave it in the on position till you hear the fuel pump stop, turn off and repeat 3 times. Then try to start it. If it starts normally, you either have a weak pump, leaking check valve in the pump or a partially clogged fuel filter. If you have access to a fuel pressure gauge, install it and turn the key to the on position. The pressure should jump immediately to about 42 to 46 PSI. If it takes 2 or 3 times to get that pressure, more than likely the pump needs replaced. Filter is a lot cheaper and easier to try if you haven't done so already.
