heat not working good

98 dodge Durango 5.9 160,000 miles
I have no coolant leaks, temp. controls reads normal, but my heat comes out warm not hot, any help would be appreciated, its cold here in Wisconsin, I need more heat,,,,,,,,,,,,Thanks Dennis from milwaukee

With the engine at full operating temp, locate the 2 heater hoses where they go into the firewall and feel them to see if they are both hot to the touch. If they are both hot, the heat in that vehicle is controlled by a blend door that regulates heated air flow. it is operated by an electric motor/actuator. The problem can be that the actuator is stripped or inoperative or the door itself could be damaged. This is what needs to be determined by examining the actuator and see if it is responding to heat change commands or not.

it seems that one heater hose is real hot and the other is not so hot, could it be the thermostat ? seems like the temp gauge gets to normal op temp then goes down some, then back up, heat is like Luke warm, I can hear the blend door close when I turn the knob the heat should work better in this big v 8 but it don't,thanks Dennis from milwaukee

No, that sounds like a plugged up heater core. I would try backflushing it with a garden hose.

took my truck to a do it youe self car wash,took off the heater hoses(not by the heater core ) had plenty of hose to work with, put $1.75 in the coin slot and blew out the heater core (back flushed it ) and my heat work better then it ever did, #$%^&%$ who first did my water pump and it was still leaking put stop leak it it, had it flushed out fot 60 bucks first, now it works great,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Thanks for the help,,,,,again,,,,,,,,,,,Dennis from milwaukee

I assume that thing had some serious pressure. You took an awful chance on blowing out that heater core. They are only designed to hold about 20 PSI and a rusted out one won't hold that much.
