help with ignition issue Sign In

I have a 2000 intrigue that the key would intermittently not work. Than last week wouldn't turn at all. I replaced the ignition and the key turned once. It didn't start it just clicked. Than the key wouldn't turn again. I got another ignition and the same thing happened. Is there some security issue I have to reset or something?.
Thanks for the help,
Rick

Re: help with ignition issue Sign In

It's probably the electrical switch itself of the linkage jamming.

Not sure what that is. How would I fix it?

Did you replace the ignition switch or the lock cylinder?

That's not what we are asking. Did you change the part with the large electrical plug?

Re: help with ignition issue Sign In

Take it off and see if it works normal off the truck. I can't see anything that could jam the whole setup if both components were replaced.

Re: help with ignition issue Sign In

Any ideas what might be causing this? I replaced the while thing twice and both times it locked up after installing it. The key turned in both new parts before I hooked then up now both are locked even when I disconnect them

Re: help with ignition issue Sign In

Not having the right tumblers would def cause this. Did you code the lock cylinder?

Re: help with ignition issue Sign In

No. Don't even know what that means. Out came south a key that worked before I installed it. How do I get it to work now?
Thanks

Is this something I can do myself or will this take a locksmith our dealer?

Re: help with ignition issue Sign In

I haven't pulled up the specs on this particular system but I would be making sure there wasn't a problem with the shifter......When the key is locking,,,,Jiggle the shifter towards park & see if that does anything for you...

Like most vehicles if the shifter is anywhere but park, you won't be able to remove the key.....
