mama needs a new pr of shoes Sign In

PirateI have an 89 Mitsubishi Galant (don't know motor size other than 4 cyl....2.0?) for which I have been merely trying to get some back brake shoes. I have been to 3 different stores and every time they give me a 9 inch shoe. The problem is I have an 8 inch drum. I really can't afford to go through a dealership (who wanted $400 for a darn fuel pump), and explaining this to the guys at the stores they look at me like I have 2 heads. This can't possibly be that darn difficult. Even my mechanic got the wrong shoe, and the previous owners of the car bought this from the dealer new and state they never had to deal with the back brakes. Any info you may provide is greatly appreciated as my car has been down for 3 weeks now. Thanks!

?? Just surfed out for drums and there's 7" for other models and up and down a model year. They did change spec in some month in 1988. The drum should be marked with the max dia. right on it. If need be take it with you and an old shoe and match them up at the counter with a different year or model or Mitsubishi.

Sometimes stuff like that happens or perhaps somehow the whole rear was replaced with something that worked from another model??

If you are still having trouble and don't mind a mail order - have parts in front of you and a tape measure, scrape parts for any indicating #s and also month and year made from door jam sticker, and call 978-562-7004 --- that's an automotive brake warehouse near me in Hudson, MA that supplies parts to the whole area and sells to the general public too but that's not their main target for biz. I've asked and they will ship or said they would once before but not generally in that as a rule. All who answer that phone are brake specialists........
