don't know where to post, because I have no clue.

I own a 2000 Honda Passport 2W-drive and I have a question and was wondering if you can offer me advice because I would really like to fix it myself.

The car recently - when going from reverse into drive - FEELS like it goes into gear BUT when you press the gas pedal it lags then jumps forward as suddenly engaged in drive. Then last night the check engine light came on. I then came to a stop light down the road - stopped and then when pressing the gas pedal it vibrated violently. THIS more than anything scared me.

Here is some history on the car: I bought it used two years ago - I have never checked the trans fluid. I wonder if this could be a problem.
About 4 months ago, I had a fuel pump replaced because the original had gone bad - even since it was replaced it has never started right (slow start). EGR valve was replaced at the same time because IT had gone bad as well.

WHAT IN THE WORLD is going on with this car. I am so sick of handing it over to mechanics to be fixed - when problems continue to rise with this car. I don't know what to do and was wondering if you could offer advice?

Do these symptoms ring a bell to a more pin pointed problem that could be getting overlooked which could be the main cause of these avalanche of issues? An electrical problem? A low trans fluid problem?

Please help!

Thank you,

Erin

P.S. automatic trans, 120,000 miles, the vibration described above felt like driving ON railroad tracks not as if you were just driving over them.

Do you have the EXACT code number? We can do more research with the number than a vague description.

Code is: P0453, which is: Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Control System, fuel tank pressure sensor circuit, high voltage. Which translates to: ?????????

took off gas cap - screw back on till "clicks" - reset check engine light - light off - drove - still no check engine light. so why is the truck acting like it has slippage? still shuttering every once and a while from stop to forward drive.

Next i added one quart of ATF - after one quart started pouring out. started car - ran it through P, R, N, D, 3, 2, L. Drove and reversed a few times - smooth no lags between shifting and no jumping. Would low trans fluid have been the problem?

With a truck over 120,000 would it be a necessary thing to have the trans filter replaced and fluid flushed and replaced?

Your code is for a sensor that is placed in the tank. The gas cap seal is not the peoblem. I do not know where it is located on your vehicle. It is usually a plastic switch that has wires going to it. Most of the time it is on the top of the tank. And yes, low transmission fluid can cause the problems you were describing. A transmission service may be a good thing for you.
