i have purchased 3 months ago, a 1995 subaru legacy 4cyl with all wheel drive and 90,000 miles on it. i am now due for my oil change . a former subaru employee has told me that i should get the front diff, gear box, and back axel oil change every 15,000 miles.is this advice dealer hype or how many miles before i do? i have no maintenace records for this car but it is in excellent condition.i will get these oils changed but would like to know recomended miles in between changes. thanks a bunch .karen

I don't have the exact spec for that car, but 15k for gear lube is rediculous. Since this is an older car and no telling when or if it was ever done, I'd change them now with a good synthetic oil and not worry about it again for a good 50,000 miles or so. Since you live in an area that gets cold, the synthetic oil will not get as thick when cold and will help prolong the life of your driveline components.

I looked at the factory maintenance schedule and they say to inspect it every 30K but there is no schedule to automatically change it. It kinda makes me wonder if he is aware of a pattern failure or something.I'm not aware of one but then I don't see a real lot of Subarus either.
