part identification Sign In

I have been trouble finding a part. I have a 305 5L in my 1980 cutlass, located on top on the front side of the motor is a pipe that carries coolant into the engine. Immediately before it reaches the engine block it passes through a coil that I believe helps with emission but people don't seem to know. It is currently.leaking water. Is it necessary.

Are you talking about the Heater Control Valve by some chance?

Those were VERY common on the Olds block more than the 305 which means Chevy to me. Both called 5.0 but Olds engine at a glance has a thermostat with by-pass hose on it for quick ID of which.


Common problem when they weren't so old so would expect that part as shown to be the issue. You can't fake those either it needs to work and not leak,
