My brakes make a hissing noise as if air is being released. It stops once i touch the brakes. Should i be concerned?

Yes...anything that can be associated with brakes should be of concern...

Where do you hear the hiss?

What year ,make ,model, size engine vehicle is this?

DO the brakes operate ok?

I would recommend taking it in to VW if for nothing else to be on the safe side..
Possibly there is a vacuum brake booster leak...the part that make the brakes "power" on most model cars/trucks.
If the power assist fails the brakes will still work but with much much greater effort and if your not prepared for it,in a panic situation or quick braking situation may not repsond as fast as you like /catch you off guard and an accident could occur.
Not trying to scare you....just error on the side of caution...
Get it checked out.

And please do let us know the outcome....

And it may be nothing to worry about...just better to be safe than sorry...

I always tell my friends and customers....consider yourself the lucky one...sometimes there is no warning before a failure.

Good Luck
