rear disc brake caliper will not retract Sign In

98 Ford Mustang with rear disc brakes as I am changing pads and rotor and the caliper will not retract with a c-clamp trying to force back and even took put bleed screw and loosened brake lin connection.

In General: Rear disc brakes with a parking brake cable to the caliper don't just push back in as the caliper itself has the parking brake mechanism in it. They screw back in with some pressure on the piston to bottom out to make room for the new parts.

If no cable to caliper it uses a small drum type brake inside rotor that is not involved with retracting the piston for service brake,

Here’s a picture of a very basic retracting/positioning tool that is used.



I had a lot more too say in this reply, about how people should do a little research on what they are about to attempt; especially when it comes to safety related items but I’ll leave it with just this.
You should have asked BEFORE you started fooling with your brakes.
