WHAT!! A DEALERSHIP CAN'T RESET THIS OR BETTER SUGGESTIONS THAN THAT!

It might not have ever had an "anti-theft" system at all. Is it lighting up something on dash now or what? If it was made without I would think it wouldn't have a bulb for a warning either?

TMK a high % of these cars went out to fleet sales or rental car companies such that if enough get sold that concern can delete features all other sales might have. If you look under the trunk or rear hatch many of those would have a sticker (1/2 inch X ~2inch) saying "Budget" or "Hertz" or other something to indicate its original order new and to which if a rental car company.

That might explain about 10 seconds of confusion at a dealer no more. If no luck call for a Ford Regional Rep with its VIN# handy and see if they can tell you something helpful or another Ford dealer, even Mercury should do as well,

That's a bit confusing to me for the read. If key has a chip or it failed use the spare first. If no spare and this did have a chip key it is going to be a hassle and cost some IF THAT'S THE REASON. Not convinced yet of much of anything? What codes did they come up with and post the #s please. If dealer is sure (might be) and this is the issue and it's $$ holding it up I can't help with that,
