hello, i drive a 1989 gmc sierra sle 1500 that has about 228000 miles on it....now somehow (the day i brought it home) i guess i locked the ignition....so no what i have to do is crack open the steering column (right where the tilt lever is), put the key in and turn to ignition (thats where the problem is, instead of cranking the engine it just turns my dash lights on) stick a flat tip screwdriver under this little silver metal peice that moves as u turn the key and pull the screwdiver towards the seats and then it will start...i was wondering what the problem could be and how i can fix it..im only seventeen and every car ive had soo far ive had to rig the starter, this truck has a brand spakin new starter and silinoid so i feel its a waste to have to use tools to start the damn thing :) i was gonna put pictures up but i exeed the data limit or something but if u wanna text me i can send u pictures through my cell, if u have any information or questions that would be awesome

It just may need, the ignition switch adjusted? There is some gearing and linkage from the lock cylinder that lead down to the electrical switch; that’s about halfway down the column. The mounting holes of the electrical switch are elongated allowing a small amount of adjustment. Just a guess here???? Dan. Canadian "EH"
