We have an 85 Volvo DL. My son apparently ran out of gas. We put about 2 gal of gas in and tried to restart. The result was similar to the 'before gas' condition. Turns over but doesn't seem to be getting gas. Is there some reason that the fuel system may not be transferring the gas. The car is on fairly level ground. Would inclining it up- or downhill help?

Some cars are fussy about starting after fuel has been run dry. Happens even when changing out fuel filters. Have you given it a few tries - being careful not to over do it? There is a bleed on fuel rail to let air out where you would check fuel pressure of sometimes a shot of starting fluid in throttle body whill kick it out of it if they are fussy, T
