starting problems

I have a 1998 Saturn SL1 4-cyl auto tranny, 180K miles. A week ago my car began having starting issues. I would turn the key and the only noise was the fuel pump relay clicking. I checked the battery and seems to be holding a charge fine. One time it started, but 10 feet down my driveway the engine died as if out of gas. (I did have all new belts hoses and cables put in 2 years ago) I changed the starter. Same problem. I exchanged fuses and relays, same problem still. I changed the fuel filter. It started up fine. It ran fine with the exception of the "service light" being lit for 3 days. Has the same problem. I played with the relay for the fuel pump and the ignition fuses and it starts to turn over once, but dies, and then back to the no sounnd - no starter kick in. I am not super knowledgeable or skilled. Doing the starter and fuel filter is about my limit. Any thoughts on what this could be? I have heard ignition switch, fuel pump, clutch switch, or fuel pump....

I have very little money to do that, was hoping someone might have had similar experience. Plus at the moment it isn't starting so I can't take it anywhere.

We are a small group of professional technicians. We systematically diagnose problems. There are hundreds of ways for a can to not start. You can try this route. All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment. If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money. Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for. These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause. 1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on. 2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on. 3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off. 4) If all of these things check good, then you would need to do a complete compression test. Found this buried in the forum....this seems like it exactly, how do I find out the solution...or is that the solution to "replace the panel Junction Block" What and where is that and can someone with very little experience do that? Bulletin Number - 03-08-45-001.... Subject: Intermittent No Start, Intermittent Stall after Start-Up and/or Loss of Radio Presets (Replace Instrument Panel Junction Block - IPJB and/or Terminal)
