Hello, I am having problems with my 2000 ford escort 8 cyleder automatic. It will not shift from park. The only way to crank the car is to turn the ignition to the off position and slid the gear Sh!tf to neutral, plus I have no brake lights, I believe they are related. I would appreciate it if some one could tell me want the problem might be!

There is a stoplight switch that may be the trouble. Check for power (fuses) and then power in one side and going out other side of this switch when brake is applied. This type looks like it might be off adjustment somehow. Should be on/near shaft of brake pedal, T
