trouble in drive

2007 chevy impala 3.5 liter 150,000 miles
my son is having problems with his car
he said the car wont go when its in drive, he has to start out in 2nd gear then shift to drive and he said the engine is shaking too
any idea what we should start to look at ?
he did put the car into a snow bank about 3 weeks ago

If we could answer that question with that info we would be psychic.
Start out by having the codes read in the computer and post the numbers here.

The transmission Control Module stores codes but you will need a professional level scan tool to be able to access them. A generic code reader won't cut it.

can motor oil some how seep into the transmission ?
my sons friend said it looks like motor oil in the tranny, anyone have any ideas ?

No, there isn't a way for that to happen accidently and if somebody did put motor oil in there, that tranny is junk.
If it's just really nasty trans fluid, you can also assume the trans is junk.

ok, the tranny was bad,so we had it replaced, the tranny was still leaking so we took it back and the guy put in two gaskets to stop the leak.
my sons friend looked at it and said the c v joint isn't all the way in the tranny and they have it held in with a zip tie, what can we do ?

?? Who's in charge of who works on this? Since the snow-bank hit this saga continues, apparently blew trans now replaced or is that "rebuilt?" Leaks so person who did that since has replaced seals and used a ''zip tie" for something certainly not to hold a shaft in!
CV boots used a metal ring just BTW.
There are a lot of "cooks in this kitchen" is making it impossible for who did what or even checked what.
Perhaps it's time for it to go just to a trans specialty shop if you want this back to working properly again? I say that's what you need to do seems this is just going to get worse the way it's going,

we took it to a little shop in Mauston,wi.
son didn't have a lot of money to work with, the tranny was from a bone yard, cost him close to $1,200 to have it done, he also told my son he needed new rotors, hub assembly
I guess my sons friend said the axel isn't even all the way in the tranny

The zip tie is certainly not holding the axle in that is impossible. It is likely sealing the boot onto the joint which is not uncommon at all.
What may be concerning though is it may have come apart in the process of removing the axle and it;s possible they could have lost a lot of the grease it holds in which could lead to premature failure of the axle but we don;t know that for sure.

tranny is all fixed and now my son has a new problem with his impala
he was having trouble with the car just dying, so we tested the battery and the alternator and all is well
today it would really start so I checked for codes and p1682 and p0606 popped up one the reader any idea what they mean and where we can start ?
helping everyone else with their cars leaves me no time to fix my own
