vw golf that wobbles

I have a '96 Golf that wobbles/sways while driving, no real noises to speak of wondered if this was a shock/strut problem, stability feels very unsafe

It is unsafe to leave unknown so do get it checked out at once. It could be a lot of things including a tire or wheel problem along with struts and anything securing the front end or rear end parts. Sometimes brakes can cause problems too so all should be inspected,
