My 1988 Olds 88 Royale in addition to other minor problems now has an approximate 1" stone chip with radial cracks. This developed yesterday. The center of the spall is in front of the driver about two inches from the bottom. I just found out from my insurance company that glass is not covered on that car! It is on my truck - but that does not help. I know states have different regulations (I'm in Pennsylvania), but would it be feasible or recommended to locate a used one and get it replaced? How much should I expect to pay for a new one being installed? Do you think it repairable on the car? I think that PA. does not permit any cracks on drivers side, especially on "field of view".

Check about the repair rules for PA. It's now legal in Massachusetts to a point. Some glass replacement places do it and I had one back when come to me for the while you wait job. Worked pretty good. Some salvage yards will set it up for used on location. It's pretty competitive and you can talk price when they know you are paying out of pocket vs insurance. I'm self insured (if you will) with glass option and the gamble of saving $150 a year over a few years pays for a windshield - so far I'm ahead on the gamble T
