1997 Pontiac Bonneville heater will not blow hot air Sign In

1997 Pontiac Bonneville SE 6Cyl, 49000 miles. Heater fan works but no hot air. Changed thermostat and checked engine hose temp which was over 200 F. Also the gas gauge and temp gauge on dashboard not functioning properly. Local mechanic says that an electrical connector under the passenger airbag is faulty. Would that show up on a computer readout? Thank you for any assistance!!!

With the engine at full operating temp, locate the 2 heater hoses where they go into the firewall and feel them to see if they are both hot to the touch. If they are both hot, the heat in that vehicle is controlled by a blend door that regulates heated air flow. it is operated by an electric motor/actuator. The problem can be that the actuator is stripped or inoperative or the door itself could be damaged. This is what needs to be determined by examining the actuator and see if it is responding to heat change commands or not.

I found most the time you can tell if the blend door is actually moving by turning the blower on high with the engine off. Move the heater control and listen for the sound of the air changing as the blend door moves.

Thank you for the information. It is my sons car and he has not had a chance to check the actuator yet. Would this also affect the gas and heat gauges which are not functioning properly?

? Fuel and temp gauge (others maybe?) don't work? IDK - has someone done work up under dash and messed things up as in right before this happened?
It's old enough fuel gauge may just be wiring under car and the rest add up to a reason if you don't know how hot this engine runs and either low on coolant, can't hold pressure or overheating it's not going to blow hot/warm air.
This is extra difficult it's not your car, probably can't just go look with now another problem trying to put this all together is like some form of phone tag.

Suggest someone check it out in person not second hand info on a web site,

T
