2002 v6 Highlander AC Belt squeal Sign In

2002 Toyota Highlander, 3.0 v6 with about 230k miles; when I start the car and turn on the AC, I hear a loud squealing that goes away after a few seconds, but can smell a distinct rubber burning smell. I've figured out that I'm going to need to replace the belt, but most of what I'm finding online talks about the serpentine belt on the 4 cylinder model.

So, my questions are:
1) What belt drives the AC on my model? Is it a timing belt, a serpentine belt, or something else?

2) My experience working on cars is limited to mainly changing the oil, tire work, and the battery (a fuse here and there, as well). Would this be something fine for me to try on my own, or would it be better to let the experts handle this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

It really doesn't sound like you are prepared/qualified for this repair. Your car has 2 belts and the main serpentine belt has to be removed to access the A/C belt. Then is have to be adjusted properly.
