2004 Ford Taurus Loud AC Noise	Sign In

Hello. I'm new to this forum, so my apologies in advance.

I have a 2004 Ford Taurus Pushrod engine and my AC system started making noises last winter. It wasn't until this summer I noticed that it would stall the engine and so I quit using it. Now after a standard alternator replacement, it seems to not affect the belt as much, but it still makes noises. It blows cold air, however I'm concerned that if I continue using it, the tension will rip the belt.

My questions are:
What is the cause of the issue? Bad compressor or bad clutch?
Is there an easy fix or jerry rigged fix?
Can I use it until it goes out completely, or will it rip the belt and leave me stranded?

Never mind the video. If it will stall the engine you have to do something to defeat A/C or by-pass it if not to be fixed. Just shutting it off isn't enough they can kick on with other settings and YES can destroy the belt and STRAND you.

So can any other item run by a belt even a separate belt can throw debris and parts take out another so you can't ignore that A/C compressor or any of them.
You need in person help belt driven noises will drive anyone nuts to be sure the A/C may not even be the problem rather it puts a load on the REAL culprit pulley that's still there,

Yes, there are two issues there. One is the compressor is getting ready to come apart and the other is the constant cycling on and off means the system is either restricted or low on refrigerant.

To repair it you would have to replace the compressor, condenser, accumulator and orifice tube. The tube may require replacing the line itself.

You then would have to verify that the fan is working correctly so as not to ruin the new compressor.
