I appologize for the subject change, but I am trying to find some help on an A/C system in my 2012 jeep grand cherokee. A few times now the air will stop blowing out of the vents while riding down the road, the blower motor still operates at all speeds but no air is pushed through the vents. When this happens you get no air or heat, you can hear the blend doors switch positions if you change settings and levels, but still no air. It will resume after cutting the engine off and wait approx. an hour then restart engine. May not happen for another month or could happen next day. I know its a warranty thing but I'm not getting much help from the dealer since it doesn't act up in the 30 min. that they look at it. Thanks for any advice

Went ahead and created a new thread for him.

Can't really figure out what is wrong with it when it is working. They are going to have to hopefully catch it when it is acting up.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thanks for the thread. It is still under warranty, but they dont seem to be very interested in any in depth diagnosis. I guess being a relatively new model they haven't had this problem enough for any kind of TSB?

Check to make sure you haven't sucked a bag or something up into the air intake under the dash on the right side. If not, then there is some issue with the mode doors that has to be found.

I forgot to mention that I did check the intake and there was nothing plugging it, I also have made sure not to put anything in that area afterwards

Electronic mode door issue, yet to be determined.

That's a curious statement.....Was there something stored in that area before?

I have agree with Desi that it will probably be an actuator problem. When you say you get no air flow, is that just thru the vents & the air is now coming out the defrost vents or floor vents or this is no air flow whatsoever in the cab?

There is no air flow from anywhere, you can change it to defrost, bi-level, head or foot and you can hear the doors change positions with no abnormal noise but there still is no airflow at all. The blower runs normally also, there isn't any hesitation or dragging

I agree it sounds like a door problem but since there is no air flow anywhere in the cab you would have to think it was an intake problem.
It seems that if it was a mode door defaulting to the wrong position you would get some air, just coming out of the wrong spot. No air would really seem like the intake is getting blocked some how, restricting the incoming air flow, about the only other scenairo I could think of but seems really unlikely would be if the squirrel cage was somehow spinning on the blower motor shaft & then reengaging at some point.
I can't say for a 12 because I haven't seen the blower motor setup but on all the other ones, it would really be impossible because once the cage became loose on the shaft, it's not going to reengage without repair.....

I'm assuming the air flow is just dead heading somewhere. He said the symptoms go away shutting the car off.

I am new to this forum, but my 12 GC has started having the same ac issues. For me, it seems to happen after driving about an hour at the same speed, usually on the interstate. I wondered if anyone had found that this happened after driving at a constant speed for an hour or so, or if you had any ideas why the ac gives out. Thanks.

If you need help with something you need to start a new thread of your own.
