95 Civic Ac High Pressure

On my 95 Civic I have a high side pressure that rapidly climbs to about 450 PSI before the compressor cuts off. The low side will start to drop but doesn't have time to stabil out. After the pressure drops the compreeor will kick back on but will repeat itself.

Do the cooling fans work? If yes, look for a restriction in the high-side line. The expansion valve is the most likely cause but could also be the dryer. If the exp. valve is clogged with dryer dessicant it will get expensive.
The refrigerant capacity is probably about a pound and a half. Be sure it's not over-charged.

The cooling fan doesn't come on. I had 1.80 lbs. according to Honda.

Inop cooling fans will cause extreme high-side pressure. Take care of that problem first. I don't have a diagram but a simple test you can do is to disconnect the harness from the fan and connect a test light between the two wires on the harness side of the connector. Start the engine, turn on the ac and check whether the light is on. If yes, the circuit is good and the fan motor is bad.

Your Civic should hold 22oz of134a. That from empty.- and evacuated. Fans MUST be running - that needs to be adressesd first.
Be careful here, freeze burns are just as bad as heat burns - use gloves. Stay safe, Tom

Is there any way the high pressuse build up would keep any switch from triggering the cooling fan. It doesn't matter if I've been running the car all day or if I start it for the 1st time in the morning, the pressure rises to 450 psi in a matter of 20 seconds and @ around 350 psi the engine starts to drag down the compressor starts to sqweel like a lose belt and to me it really sounds odd. I did get a chance to see the low side start to settle and the lowest I seen it at one time was around 60 psi and I added 22 oz. of charge after changeing the exspasion valve. The accumulator is spotless inside. There is free flow through out the whole system, when I had the evaporator out changing the exspansion valve,I check the system for blockage there is no restricktion. Any ideas. Right now I'm thing the compressor may be bad with some type of valve inside or something and guys I appriciate all your time and help. Thanks again.
