I have a 1991 Honda Civic 3dr. My A/C works very well for about 15 minutes and then just blows hot air. The A/C light stays lit. No sound change. The only way to get it to work again is to turn the engine off and wait a while and then it works again for 10-15min (max).

Any ideas?

A couple things----- Can you get pressures while it's working? A 1991 might still be R-12. Take a reading with it down too. Take note as to whether the compressor is turning (the outer head of it should be turning). You may be just low on refrigerant. The pressures are the "dip stick" of the A/C charge and you will need gauges. They may be available at this site. If you buy them for R-12 get the adaptors for 134a at the same time. About $130 and will serve you well and save you money for years. Careful - they could make you very popular where you live!Smile

If not available at this site hit me at home address for more help. R-12 is restricted in the USA and Canada restricts 134a also - need to know more about the troubles. Here to help, T
