AC Clutch Locked Sign In

2009 BMW 335i 3.0L 40k miles.

AC is not working/no cold air but AC compressor appears to have a locked clutch with it always engaged. (front always spinning) regardless of AC on or off.
Is it possible that only the clutch is damaged and that I can replace it without discharging the system?

It's not isolated so discharging it is in order to replace if required,

You should really leave this to a professional that's experienced with this system. Your car doesn't even have a clutch. It is controlled through internal valving.

You can do more damage than good messing around with this system.

Re: AC Clutch Locked Sign In

Those compressors have a refrigerant control valve (RCV). With only that mileage, I bet that it stopped working. We use an RCV tester to determine whether is good or bad. I hope you find someone who is willing to replace it instead of the whole compressor.
